Koh Swee Lin

Tampines, Singapore

"I completed Long Views in February and found it genuinely useful. The balance sheet exercise in the first session was something I had been meaning to do for years. Having a structured framework to do it in — and a group to discuss it with — made a real difference."

"The Equity Markets course was slower than other investment courses I have attended, and I mean that as a compliment. The pace gave me time to actually think about each concept rather than just trying to absorb slides. I had used ETFs for years without really understanding the fee structures — that changed."

"Coordinated Retirement Income was the most detailed course I have done on CPF planning. The SRS withdrawal section cleared up a lot of confusion I had been carrying. The final session on family documentation — having a plan that my husband can actually read and follow — that was not something I expected but turned out to be the most valuable hour."

"I appreciated that no one tried to sell me anything. I have attended seminars before where the free education is a prelude to a product pitch. This was not that. The facilitator was knowledgeable and careful not to stray into advice territory — he explained things and let us draw our own conclusions."

"The workbook was the thing that made this different from anything I had tried before. Most courses leave you with slides and notes you never open again. This one produced a document with my own numbers in it. I updated it two months after finishing and it was still relevant."

"I came in uncertain whether the Retirement Income course was too advanced for me. In the first session it became clear that the instructor had thought carefully about how to sequence the content. Each week built on the previous one without feeling rushed. I have a drawdown plan now. That alone was worth it."

NS

Ng Siew Peng, 52 — Long Views, then Retirement Income

Completed both courses over eight months

The situation

Siew Peng had a long working career and a reasonable CPF balance but had never sat down to construct a complete picture of her household finances. Her husband was ten years older, had already retired, and was drawing from CPF LIFE. She needed to understand how their combined income would look when she retired too.

What she worked on

Long Views gave her a framework for the household balance sheet and a clearer understanding of CPF projections. Retirement Income took her through how to sequence her own CPF LIFE and SRS withdrawals alongside her husband's existing income, taking account of their combined household tax position.

What changed

She left the Retirement Income course with a documented drawdown plan that covers both her retirement date scenarios and her husband's. The family-readable version now sits in a folder that both she and her husband can find and follow.

AM

Ahmad Mirzan, 47 — Equity Markets for Patient Investors

Completed in January 2025

The situation

Ahmad had held a broad-market ETF for six years without fully understanding what it was tracking or how its fee structure compared to alternatives. He wanted to develop a more considered framework before adding to his portfolio in the years approaching fifty.

What he worked on

The course covered valuation approaches, how to evaluate dividend policy for income-oriented investors, and a comparison of ETF structures available through the SGX and via overseas brokers. The behavioural finance sessions were, in his own assessment, the most useful part.

What changed

Ahmad developed a written investment framework — his own criteria for evaluating additions to his portfolio. He describes this as more useful than any specific recommendation because it applies to whatever circumstances arise over the next fifteen years.
