— Our Methodology

How the courses work

Every course follows the same structure: weekly sessions lasting approximately ninety minutes, a workbook segment to complete between sessions, and a discussion component that draws on the group's collective experience.

The workbook is not supplementary material — it is the course. By the end of each programme, participants have a structured personal document covering the financial area that the course addresses. This document is theirs to keep, update, and build on.

Session notes are shared with all participants after each meeting. If a participant misses a session, they receive the notes and workbook pages and can bring questions to the following week.

Long Views — Personal Finance for the Years Ahead

A six-week course for learners who wish to think about their finances on a long horizon. The starting point is the household balance sheet — a complete picture of what you own and owe. From there the course moves through CPF account review, retirement timeline construction, and an introductory survey of investment categories.

The tone throughout is reflective and workbook-led. Each participant finishes with a personal summary document that serves as a long-term financial reference — built from their own figures, in their own words.

Household balance sheet construction and review
CPF Ordinary, Special and MediSave accounts
Retirement timeline projection
Overview of investment categories
Weekly workbook exercises and group discussion
Personal summary document on completion
Long Views course

Equity Markets course

Best suited for

Learners who have some familiarity with savings and CPF but want to understand equity markets and ETFs well enough to make considered decisions about them. Particularly relevant for those approaching or in early retirement.

Equity Markets for Patient Investors

An eight-week course on equity markets paced for learners who want to understand what they are doing before they act. The course covers valuation fundamentals, how dividend policy affects investor returns, and the instruments available on and off the SGX that are most relevant to Singapore-based mid-life investors.

A substantial portion of the course addresses behavioural finance — the ways in which common thinking patterns affect market participation, and how awareness of these patterns can improve decision quality over time.

Valuation fundamentals and price-to-earnings analysis
Dividend policy and total return thinking
SGX-listed instruments and market structure
Exchange-traded funds and fee analysis
Behavioural considerations for later-life investors
Workbook with personal investment framework

Coordinated Retirement Income

A nine-week course on drawing income from multiple sources in retirement — CPF LIFE, SRS, private investments, and, where applicable, rental income. The course examines how these sources interact with each other and with Singapore's income tax treatment, and how sequencing decisions affect the total income available over time.

Each participant works with the instructor to develop a personal drawdown plan suited to their own income sources and household spending pattern. The final session is devoted to documenting this plan so that it can be understood and followed by a family member if needed.

CPF LIFE payout options and timing
SRS withdrawal rules and tax treatment
Investment income sequencing strategies
Rental income coordination and considerations
Household spending coordination framework
Personal drawdown plan with instructor guidance
Family-readable documentation session
Coordinated Retirement Income course

Best suited for

Learners within ten years of their intended retirement date who have multiple income sources to coordinate — CPF LIFE, savings, investments, and possibly rental income — and want to plan how to use them together.
